Covid-19 is another name for the Wuhan flu that results from a SARS virus, and like the old SARS virus that originated in China, this one also originated in China. Plain enough.
Bill Maher is entertaining and quite often informative as well. In his “New Rule” segment, he says that we should not shy away from calling the new virus by its name.
Bill is not as wise as Confucius the Chinese sage but he makes a good case against people who get their panties in a twist when they hear non-PC language. Confucius would have been very clearly against the poisonous politically-correct culture that infects the modern world.
The Chinese saying, “The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name,” is derived from what Confucius said on the rectification of names:
“If language is not correct, then what is said is not what is meant; if what is said is not what is meant, then what must be done remains undone; if this remains undone, morals and art will deteriorate; if justice goes astray, the people will stand about in helpless confusion. Hence there must be no arbitrariness in what is said. This matters above everything.”
By not naming properly, what must be done remains undone. If language is not correct, the people will stand about in helpless confusion.
Bill is channeling Confucius. New rule: You can’t yell at someone for breaking a rule you just made up. Watch —
The WHO made up the rule to stop naming diseases with the location of their origin — but that rule was made a few years ago, not just for the novel Chinese virus of 2019. Bill Maher is also wrong in thinking that the Spanish flu originated in Spain. The wiki says that “despite its popular name, historical and epidemiological data cannot identify the geographic origin of the Spanish flu.”
In any event, it is worth remembering that the disease the WHO has labeled Covid-19 is caused by a virus that originated in the wet markets of Wuhan. Those wet markets should be closed. Bill tweeted —
China is a dictatorship that, for decades, enforced a one child per family policy under penalty of forced sterilization. But they can’t close down the farmer’s market from hell?
Enjoy your Sunday.

Wasn’t Spanish Flu actually from Kansas ? Of course the Americans will find it very disputable just like the fact that Saddam had no WMD, Taliban was actually funded by by USA and ISIS is a full creation of USA.
I think Chinese should simply proudly embrace the Chinese Flu name and move on and focus their energies on naming things that could potentially shame USA and Europe.
COVID-19 is the name of the disease. The particular virus causing it can be referred to as Wuhan virus.
Lol. American government once confiscated all gold from Americans but they can’t get their rifles. Cultural differences matter.
