The BBC is Biased

A BBC report on the recent Ahmedabad bombs concludes with:

Mr Modi has been accused of failing to protect Muslims in the riots in Gujarat during 2002 in which at least 1,000 people died, including many in Ahmedabad. The violence erupted when a fire broke out on a train carrying Hindu pilgrims, killing at least 59 people.

I suppose BBC had reported the American attack on Afghanistan in 2001 with something like:

The US invaded Afghanistan after the twin towers of the World Trade Center in NY collapsed after fire broke out killing over two thousand people.

Mysterious fires suddenly erupting in building and trains. So mysterious that even the BBC has no clue how or why the fires started. Truly astonishing.

What is interesting is that the BBC is not reluctant to report an accusation — almost as if it were an established fact — but cannot bring itself to report an established fact that the torching of the train was a premeditated act of Islamic terrorism. I wonder if the BBC reporters get funded by Islamists.

  1. The BBC is biased. And London is the capital of the United Kingdom. And politicians are sleazy.

    Well, of course.

There’s a blog and a forum dedicated to its many biases.

And on my blog, it is always referred to as the ‘BBC’, to indicate my journalistic scepticism. Just as it always refers to ‘militants’, ‘gunmen’ and ‘terrorists’, I think it is fair for us to doubt whether it is ‘British’, ‘Broadcasting’ and ‘Corporation’ or indeed any permutation & combination of these words.

  2. Dear Atanu,

Being politically correct especially in middle east is top on their agenda. They will go against Israel always, even if Israel is right.

That is why it is the most watched channel in middle east. You will see BBC news broadcast 24×7 in big screen (100″?) in Dubai Airport.

England has huge stakes in Middle East and if rich Arabs pull their money out from London (proerties and investments), their economy would collapse.

England continue to play divide and rule game in middle east to sustain their own economy. If the probelms are solved, many of their citizens would lose lucreative jobs.

So please do not expect BBC to be unbiased, more so in this case.

Fedup with the pro muslim stance of politicians and BBC, almost half a million british citizens permanently leave their country every year and settle down in Australia / US .

Half of this poulation loss is replenished by Asians and majority of them are from pakisthan, b’desh and middle east.

  3. Well Duh, and most media isnt?
But they are in dunce category of their own
I recall a few things like
When indian airlines plane was hijacked they initilialy had reports that sikhs had done this.
The source was a dubai accent expert….
They had once said bill gates suffers from a napoleonic complex b/c he is 5’10 and average US males approaching 6’….I have allways enjoyed there word play.
I saw their stupid documentary on AirCar without ever going into PV=nRT?
The list can go on and on…Just about any time i have been to their site or watched their porn peddled as journalism on public tv in us i have noticed attitude worth ridiculing, and have sensed a more negative attiturd towards india.
But thankfuly public tv in us is not taxpayer funded.
I would have to say next to indian media(collectively) they are the only one that has cause me to smirk over their ignoramus pompousity.
But they are a notch above in that it is state sanctioned Queens Shit and its all one organization.

  5. While I agree with what Sunder says, I would like to add something to it. This is not only about BBC.
Almost every known “liberal” news organisation has this bias, towards a particular community.

The greatest success of these cowards like Taliban and Al Qeeda (NOTE: I do not call them Jehadis) , has been to indoctrine the most powerful media men in the world, with their “victimhood”. They have succesfully, in my opinion, presented a picture of a David vs Goliath fight where the “oh-so-innocent” and “weak” muslims are fighting the super powerful forces of the world. Be it USA or Isreal or India.
Movie makers and Bleeding hearts (like Mahesh Bhatt, Arundati Roy) easily buy into this percieved victimization of this community. Because of their visibility in mainstream media they drive lot of people from younger generation to believe in this theory.
I bet, if you wait for another few days, a Vinod Mehta or a Barkha Dutt or Ms Roy will come up with an OP-ED titled – “Don’t blame “all” Muslims”. As if we do. In fact i think we don’t blame enough. I think ALL Muslims are responsible what’s happening under their religions name.
And somewhere in the middle of those “we all want peace” OP-EDs, there is insuniation to point to “communal” forces of country. The idea is to find excuses and justification for terror. Because something happened in 1992 or 2002 or 1952 this is happening. Or something like that.
I am closely watching how NDTV is going about all these attacks. I specially need to see Madam Barkha all giggly in “We the people” or some crap program like that where she gets “The Panel” to talk of such serious subjects.

IMO, NDTV is worse than BBC. At least in case of BBC, if Britain is attacked, they don’t behave like NDTV.

  6. Hi Atanu

Why are you so surprised? BBC is biased and utterly unscientific. Its coverage of science and tech is atrocious, esp. regarding hoax science (Homeophathy, etc)…

We have to have our own news corporation to compete. OR we should make this and related blogs as popular and accessible to all, as an alternative to BBC.

  7. This takes the cake, of all the right-wing fanaticism I’ve read on this blog and it’s comments at times, this is the worst. The only evidence that the train attack was pre-meditated is one man’s testimony which he recanted. All the while there is tons of evidence of Modi targeting muslims: http://www.democracynow.org/2007/12/5/explosive_report_by_indian_magazine_exposes

The BBC was far more right than it is wrong in it’s two statements. Every commenter here is biased along with the author of the post. If there is any other evidence pointing towards a pre-meditated attack, please link to it.
