# Friday the 13th, Pi Day the 14th & Beware the Ides of March

But first, if you are superstitious then be wary since it is Friday the 13th. If you know anything about numbers, and you live in the US, then you can be irrational on Saturday which is Pi Day.

This pi day stuff works only in the US convention of writing mm/dd/yy for dates.

But whatever you do, beware the Ides of March.

Economist.

Hope you all had a happy pie day. In order to arrive at 3.141592653 and so on what number is being divided by what other number. It is not 22/7. Just asking for a friend.

Pi (not pie) is an irrational number. Which means that it can only be approximately indicated as a fraction such as 22/7. Advanced mathematical techniques and massive computational resources have calculated the value of pi to around 13 trillion digits. There’s no end to it. For more, see the wikipedia entry on pi at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi
