What’s Next on the UPA Agenda for India

The UPA has done quite a lot in the last seven years or so. Around 2004, India was at the take-off stage of a developing country. We could see a tiny light shining at what appeared to be the end of the tunnel. It looked like the country was finally out of the clutches of the Nehruvian socialist regime and had broken free of the 2-3% “Nehru rate of growth.” The NDA (led by the so-called “Hindu nationalist” BJP) had done a few things right and given India the 10% “Hindu rate of growth.” But then the UPA took over. They extinguished the light and the hope, and are doing everything to drag India back to Nehruvian poverty. Let’s do a quick review.

Suppose you were hell-bent on destroying India. Not just destroy it economically but destroy it culturally and civilizationally also. What would you do? For economic destruction, take these steps:

1. Make a large segment of the population dependent on government handouts.
2. Expand the size of the government. Nationalize large segments of the economy and run them into the ground.
3. Tax the productive segment of the population and make transfer payments to the non-productive segment. (The non-productive segment being larger, these transfers ensure continued victory in the elections.)
4. Give handouts to favored segments of the population. The handouts will end up crippling the economy.

To destroy India civilizationally, you would divide the population along religious lines and pit them against each other. If you were the enemy of India, you would be well-advised to do that. Conversely, if you did do that, you are definitely India’s enemy.

I observe that Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi is directing the UPA to do what I briefly listed above. So what lies ahead? Clearly, the BJP is either clueless, or incompetent, or who knows perhaps complicit. In any case, general elections are coming up and given the mood of the electorate, it could be bad news for the Congress: the regional parties could end up sucking up too many votes, leaving the Congress weakened. What would Antonia Maino do next to speed up the destruction of India?

I put myself in her shoes. What would be next on my agenda? Here’s what I would do. I would start a war with the neighbor. A war would distract the population from focusing on such matters as deepening poverty, inflation, employment, and corruption. People rally around the government during times of war.

Yes, a war just in time to change the mood of the public before the elections.

But, wait a minute. It takes two to have a war. Would Pakistan oblige? Yes! The rulers of Pakistan also need to distract Pakistanis. It has been a long while since they had one of those 1000-year jihads against the infidel Indians. So a war with India would be just perfect for them as well.

So my guess is that by mid-2012, India will be at war with Pakistan. How will it begin? I am thinking a huge big terrorist attack. I think it could be engineered around New Delhi. A series of bombs. Some of these will be in heavily crowded areas so that hundreds are killed; some of these in high profile locations so that the leaders appear to be targeted, and these leaders then reap the benefits of the public outrage.

To sum up, if I were to be in the business of destroying India, I would do the following. First, do what the UPA is doing: NREGA, reservations based on religion, FSB, loan wavers, etc. Next, I will engineer a series of terrorist attacks. Finally, go to war with Pakistan.

  1. I don’t think the UPA can go to war with pakistan. for if they did, MMS would weep everytime a paki soldier were shot. first claim and all that, you see.

a big terror attack is certainly possible. after which chidu will say “dont try my patience again”.

the most that can happen is the congress will say it (terror attack) was an RSS conspiracy and start an open genocide of non-dhimmified hindus.

  2. Agree with SV, don’t know where this post comes from, the basic premise of the argument is incorrect, the GDP growth rate under NDA govt. was never was 10%. The attached link via the World Bank lists the GDP growth rate for India for the last 10 years. http://www.google.co.in/publicdata/explore?ds=d5bncppjof8f9_&met_y=ny_gdp_mktp_cd&idim=country:IND&dl=en&hl=en&q=india+gdp#ctype=l&strail=false&bcs=d&nselm=h&met_y=ny_gdp_mktp_kd_zg&scale_y=lin&ind_y=false&rdim=country&idim=country:IND&ifdim=country&tstart=883247400000&tend=1293474600000&hl=en&dl=en

Although I think the Congress party is a disaster especially during the second term, the argument that the NDA govt was much better at managing the economy is not based in fact, actually one can make the argument that they were much worse if one is using GDP rate as the metric.
In your post on June 2, 2011 you wrote ‘We must do arithmetic. John McCarthy, the Stanford computer scientist guru says, “Those who refuse to do arithmetic are doomed to speak nonsense.”’

  3. Again, Atanu, please consider renaming : “Atanu Dey on India’s LACK of Development”
Such a title may be relevant for foreseeable future, as people are more likely to elect Congress and you’d continue this tirade Ad nauseum 🙂

Or, unless you have any Real Development related thoughts in pipeline, in spite of the governance, legacy, people and rest of the standard temperature and pressure

  4. Going to war against a perceived enemy during times of domestic political downturn has been textbook operating procedure for many nations as exemplified by the Iraq invasion among others. Thing is, the US and NATO allies have the military might and economic power to execute these wars. India’s excuse for a leadership has neither. I think the best they will do under the current government is to toss a few loud crackers from Sivakasi across the border and, as we have always done, hope for a miracle.

  5. The Gandhi family may be the evil that we all would like to get rid of, but make no mistakes – Antonia has to grow a pair to go to war against Crapistan and Italians only know how to suck on one, not grow one.

  6. If Kangress decides to go for a war with pakistan, wont it be a big loss of credibility amongst the secular votebank ?. For each paaki soldier killed, the congress may even announce 20 lakh rupees compensation to next of their kin, thus completely draining the coffers such that if BJP/NDA were to come to power, they have nothing to work with except debts.

  7. Everybody knows about the billions in black money stashed away at the Swiss banks by our dear leaders for decades. Reports have been published about them. What really depresses me and confirms my belief that India is slowly but surely on the path of an also-ran or a failed state is the total unwillingness of any authority to even try investigating these cases. The reason for that too is pretty obvious – the judiciary is in the payroll of some very powerful people, and the CBI has no autonomy, if they have not already been bought over.

  9. There is one more way out for congress to extend their grip on power. It can create some communal riots (may be in Gujarat or UP or Karnataka) and consolidate the “secular” vote to stay in power. MMS & Chidu didnot have the courage to go to war even after Mumbai attacks.

  10. ppl in the comments seem to support a war in response to pak sponsored terror. Please understand a war will only worsen India’s military and financial resources as pak is sure to fight back plus the damage due to attacks would be grave.
