Sorry for not keeping in touch. I have been traveling places, meeting people, doing stuff. Very busy by my (admittedly low) standards 🙂 Anyway, I am fine and thanks for asking. Here’s what I am thinking about
I was imagining what would happen in the next hostage situation. Terrorists from our good neighbor Pakistan (according to SRK) take say 100 Indians hostage — a plane hijacking perhaps. In return for the hostages, they demand that Kasab, the butcher of Mumbai, to be released.
My thought was that India should then in exchange for the hostages, offer them the people who are responsible for not hanging Kasab now that the trial is over. I would suggest MMS and his boss. In any case, the damage that Kasab has done is infinitesimally small compared to what the Congress rulers have done over the last half century. Who needs Kasab when these people rule?

Ain’t nothing gonna change if another hostage situation arises. A few terrorists will be released again and some NGO’s will beat their cheast and claim how downtrodden Muslims are in this country and after some time everything will be forgotten and people like SRK will want India to play more cricket with Pakistan, some more qawwals will be invited for shows in India and some more Pakistani singers will get to make hay in India so that they can go back home and complain about how filthy Hindus are. 🙂
I wonder how many here are aware of a man called Zaid Hamid, apparently his right hand man is a so called Paki Rocker (whatever rocker means in the Paki contest called Ali Azmat. Remeber the bald guy from the group Junoon).
All one has to do is to listen to this egg headed, Jew& Hindu hating rocker on TV to be able to understand how he thinks.
But if you tell a Hindu as to what their favourite Paki rockers think about them, they will flatly reply ” I am not intersted in politics only his music.”

It is truely amazing how Indians suffer at the hands of the very people governing us. Do these acts of war against India not affect them at all or are they so smug sitting in Delhi protected by security personnel to not feel threatened?
Their apathy and inaction are apalling to say the least. I wonder how the powers that be would act if say one of their family members’ was butchered in a terror attack? I am sure they would still do nothing.
It seems that the Indian politicians have stopped thinking, doing nothing, planning nothing, anticipating nothing and are content to go on from day to day.
Their ineptitude and grossly incapacitated actions have reduced India to what it has really become – A tragedy of epic proportions.

In any such hostage situation, there are broadly, 4 actors (groups) whose actions can be considered to have an effect on the situation: the govt, the opposition, the general public and the “civil society”. (there is overlap between 3 and 4). The govt in a counrty like India is generally passive; and takes decisions based on the actions of the other 3 actors. The opposition generally wants a stick to beat the govt with; hence its best strategy is: “the unity and integrity of the country should be safeguarded keeping in mind the safety and security of the hostages”. There is obviously a trade-off, but to the opposition no trade-off is optimal and wud be the subject of criticism. The general public ( ppl interested in the outcome wud probably be very small) are emotional; and overwhelmingly unaware of consequences and devoid of principles. Based on these reactions, the govt generally takes a decision aimed at satisfying the majority, but, and this is a very important but, it would have helped if someone in the govt could stand up and say: “if this happens to my folks in the future I wud not compromise”. Even if there are such individuals they wud find it hard to say this, as others wud effectively stop him as their own inadequacy wud be revealed. This is, I think what happened in past hostage situations. The solution is to codify an extremely rigid framework for such situations; unfortunately it wud not happen.

I’m not sure hanging kasab is necessarily the best option. He may be as much a victim as the people he killed… the roots are the leaders who brainwashed him with the militant jihadist mentaity and supplied the training.
Much as the fundamentalists have been brainwashed, we should also be careful about our personal dogma. The Congress maynot be a beacon of success but it sure has been secular. Its economic policies are mostly populist in nature and flawed in several ways. Most people were hang Kasab as soon as he was captured. We should be better than that and allow a full court case (as has been done, though the judgement is pending).

A Party that supports freebies for Muslims in the name of Haj Houses, promtes and provides monterary and travel funds to Muslims for Hajj, gives minority institutions to take all advantages of tax payers money, crimps whenever the name of “common civil code” is taken, can’t be secular by standards. Plus secularism is a very term and can’t be quantified.
I mean how secular does one have to be inorder to be labbeled as a secular person. Doesn’t true secularism mean rejection of faith altogether and where the state has nothing to do with religion.
Has Congress followed any of these principles, I guess not, and hence they are not secular by any stretch of imagination.

Yes Ritwik. We should ignore or bend the law when it is inconvenient to our personal feelings or doesn’t mesh with our ideology, and have a flexible approach. And to hell with accountability of, and taking responsibility for one’s actions – much better to turn them into bechaare victims, who were forced by circumstances to kill Indians in cold blood. It’s the rule of law only when it is convenient to us.
With thinking like you espouse being the norm and being accepted without any analysis, is it any surprise that our society is so messed up?
